2004/07/01 - IBMシステム/38（S/38）の国内第1号ユーザーは丸紅だった。丸紅は1980年中に非鉄金属部門など5部門にS/38を導入した。同社の事務管理部長補佐（当時）は「システムの追加や保守は現場任せ。S/38は任せっきりの体制がとれる機械だ。頻繁なシステム変更にもS/38は対応しやすい。プログラム開発の生産性はメインフレームの3〜4倍もあるからだ」と生産性の高さを話した。日本IBMは「大企業の部門マシンとして需要が伸びる」と期待した。
